Communicable Disease Control Program

National Program is working at community level. Most of the improved health indicators are the product of this program. More than 3300, LHWs, LHSs and other supports staff taken up at higher level for regularization and allocation of financial resources. AJK Family Planning and Primary Health care employees Regularization and Standardization Act 2017 has been approved. The existing allocation of Rs. 520.780 millions were insufficient and creating nuisance for health workers and other allied staff. The was case taken up with Federal Ministry and after long deliberation an additional amount of 190.780 million rupees were allotted to AJ&K; LHW program.

Communicable Disease Control Program

Background

The Malaria Control Program was started as a Pilot Project in District Muzaffarabad in 1966.Malaria Eradication Program replaced Malaria Control Program & included in PSDP in 1967.Malaria Eradication Program was shifted to normal budget, integrated with Health services in 1978 in Pakistan and AJ&K(04 Districts) and renamed as Malaria control. Renamed as “Communicable Diseases Control Program” in 1998 and all Positions were re-designated.


Scope of CDC

  • Prevention & Control of communicable diseases in connection with SDG.3 Target 3.3: Prompts to “end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases.”
  • Currently CDC Involved in Prevention & Control of  Vector Borne Diseases ( Malaria, Dengue Fever, CCHF,etc),TB, Hepatitis & AIDS

Infrastructure of CDC

  • There are 15 main sectors, 160 sub-sectors, and 20 microscopy centers under CDC all over the state
  •  316 positions of HR are engaged in CDC activities all over the state

Administrative Setup

  • At state level Directorate of Health Services CDC established for Planning & implementation under the stewardship of Director Health Services CDC BPS-20
  • At District level four operational units (Poonch, MZD, Kotli & Mirpur) are functional with supervision/ stewardship of Additional District Health Officer CDC BPS-18

Major Interventions of CDC

  • Diseases Surveillance of VBDs/Hepatitis/TB
  • Provision of free services regarding Diagnosis and Treatment of Malaria & TB all over the state
  • Launching of Larval Source reduction Campaign/Environmental Management  especially during Dengue Season with the Collaboration of Line Departments
  • Behavior Change Communication (BCC) Campaign regarding Prevention & Control of Communicable Diseases
  • Provision of Long lasting Insecticide Treated Bed Nets (LLITNs) to Malaria & Dengue Patients free of cost
  • Larval Source Management (LSM)
  • Chemical Control of VBDs ( Indoor Residual Spray/Focal Spray
  • Fumigation in case of Outbreak of Dengue
